| In this world of GUI screen design a character-based ruler may not seem altogether useful. However, when you need to create or verify flat files with fixed-width columns it's certainly helpful. Yes, yes. The vim ruler at the bottom will tell you where the cursor is, but that's not always what you need to know. |
